Are you a Christian?

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE A CHRISTIAN?

Most people live their entire lives without ever knowing "WHY?" They exist year after year with no idea of why they live or God's purpose for their lives. The most basic question a person can ask is "What is the meaning of my life?"

Everyone wants to be happy. People try:

• Some look for happiness by acquiring possessions.
• Some look for happiness by experiencing pleasure.
• Some look for happiness by gaining prestige and power.

  But real happiness comes from understanding my PURPOSE in life.

• Membership is not the end!! It is the beginning of an incredible journey with your new family in Jesus Christ here at Miramar Church!

  WHY AM I HERE?

  (1) God made me to LOVE me!

  God says in Jeremiah 31.3 "I have loved you with an everlasting love!"

  Long ago, even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes. His unchanging plan has always been to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. And this gave him great pleasure. Ephesians 1.4-5 (NLT)

• We were created to ENJOY a personal relationship with God and to MANAGE all of the rest of God's creation. This makes us special!!!

  So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. Then God blessed them, and God said to them, "Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth." Genesis 1.27-28 (NKJV)

  Command those who are rich in this present age not to be haughty, nor to trust in uncertain riches but in the living God, who gives us richly all things to enjoy. 1 Timothy 6.17 (NKJV)

  Jesus said in John 10.10 My purpose is to give life in all its fullness. (NLT)

• When we know and love God, and live in harmony with His purpose for our lives, it produces tremendous BENEFITS in our life:

  Clear Conscience - Romans 8.1
  Life and Peace - Romans 8.6
  Help with Weakness - Romans 8.26
  Purpose - Romans 8.28
  Confidence - Romans 8.31
  Security - Romans 8.39
  Power & Strength - Philippians 4.13
  Fulfillment - Philippians 4.19
  Freedom - John 8.32, 36
  

  This is the kind of life that God wants us to have. So why aren't we happy?

WHAT'S THE PROBLEM?

• Man has a natural desire to be BOSS and to ignore God's principles for living.
  
  
• "Look out for #1."
• "Do your own thing."
• "If it feels good, do it - regardless of what God says about it."
• "It's my life and I'll do what I please!"

  The Bible calls this attitude: SIN.

  All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned, every one, to his own way; and the LORD has laid on Him the iniquity of us all. Isaiah 53.6 (NKJV)

  If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 1 John 1.8 (NKJV)

  Sin breaks our close relationship with God. It causes us to fear God and try to live our lives outside of His will.

  But your iniquities have separated you from your God; and your sins have hidden His face from you, so that He will not hear. Isaiah 59.2 (NKJV)

  ... for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, Romans 3.23 (NKJV)

  When our relationship to God is not right, it causes problems in every area of our lives - marriage, career, relationships, finances, etc.

  WHEN PEOPLE HAVE PROBLEMS, THEY OFTEN TRY MANY DIFFERENT WAYS OF COPING BEFORE TURNING TO GOD.

  There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death. Proverbs 16.25 (NKJV)

  Even when we know that our deepest need is God, we often try wrong ways of getting to know Him:

  "My mother was a Christian so ..." "It doesn't matter what you believe, just be sincere." "I'll work really hard and earn it." "I'll be religious and go to church."

  WHAT'S THE SOLUTION?
  Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. John 14.6

  God Himself came to earth as a human being to bring us back to Himself. If any other way would have worked, Jesus Christ would not have had to come. The Way is a PERSON!

• JESUS HAS ALREADY TAKEN CARE OF YOUR SIN PROBLEM!
  

• God did this for us because He loves us and wants us to know Him. But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5.8 (NKJV)

  God has already done His part to restore our relationship to him. He took the initiative. Now He wants for each of us to individually accept what He has done for us.

  WHAT DOES GOD WANT ME TO DO?
  (1) ADMIT that God has not been first place in your life and ask Him to forgive your sins.

  But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us and to cleanse us from every wrong. 1 John 1:9 (NLT) (2) BELIEVE that Jesus died to pay for your sins, that He rose again as we observe on Easter, and is alive today.

  So you will be saved, if you honestly say, "Jesus is Lord," and if you believe with all your heart that God raised him from death. Romans 10:9 (CEV) "Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved." Acts 4:12 (NKJ) (3) ACCEPT God's free gift of salvation. Don't try to earn it!

  God saved you by his special favor when you believed. And you can't take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it. For we are God's masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so that we can do the good things he planned for us long ago. Ephesians 2:8-10 (NLT) Our relationship to God is not restored by anything we do, but on the basis of what Jesus has already done.

  (4) INVITE Jesus Christ to come into your life and be "Lord" (The Boss) of your life.

  Then He said to them all, "If anyone desires to come after Me, Let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me. For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will save it. For what advantage is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and is himself destroyed or lost? Luke 9:23-25 (NKJV) But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. John 1.12-13 (NKJV)

  "Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me. Revelation 3.20 (NKJV)

  But why do you call Me 'Lord, Lord' and do not do the things which I say? Luke 6:46 (NKJV)

  YOU CAN TAKE THESE STEPS BY PRAYING A SIMPLE PRAYER OF COMMITMENT TO GOD:
  "Dear Jesus, thank you for making me and loving me, even when I've ignored you and gone my own way. I realize I need you in my life. I ask you to forgive my sins and wrong attitudes. Thank you for dying on the cross for me. Please help me to understand it more. As much as I know how, I want to follow you from now on. Please come into my life and take over control. Make me a new person inside. I accept your gift of salvation. Please help me to grow now as a Christian."

  Not everyone who says to Me, Lord, Lord, shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. Many will say to Me in that day, "Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?' And then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!' Matthew 7:21-23 (NKJV)

  Two clear facts about those who go to Heaven:
  

• Do the WILL of the Father
  
• Do not practice LAWLESSNESS

  Say a quiet yes to God and he'll be there in no time. Quit dabbling in sin. Purify your inner life. Quit playing the field. James 4:8 (Msg)

  For "whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved." Romans 10.13 (NKJV)
