“God’s sovereignty is the attribute by which He rules His entire creation, and to be sovereign God must be all-knowing, all-powerful, and absolutely free. The reasons are these:Were there even one datum of knowledge, however small, un-known to God, His rule would break down at that point. To be Lord over all the creation, He must possess all knowledge. And were God lacking one infinitesimal modicum of power, that lack would end His reign and undo His kingdom; that one stray atom of power would belong to someone else and God would be a limited ruler and hence not sovereign. Furthermore, His sovereignty requires that He be absolutely free, which means simply that He must be free to do whatever He wills to do anywhere at any time to carry out His eternal purpose in every single detail without interference. Were He less than free He must be less than sovereign.” AW Tozer, The Knowledge of the Holy, [Harper and Row: New York, Evanston, San Francisco, London, 1961] p.115 Without missing a step, AW Tozer as always, elucidates Bible doctrine with impeccable precision. The doctrine of the Sovereignty of God is described with penetrating insightful words from his classic abovementioned. Tozer’s writings should favorites for Christians due to his solid grasp of Scripture. You won’t go wrong with much of his writings. To understand that God is Sovereign is to know God in an extremely humble way. You can’t help but bow your knees to his absolute rule. He is absolutely Sovereign! His ways cannot be thwarted. His plans cannot be diverted. His goals and purposes cannot be brought to naught. He will accomplish all he has decreed to come to pass. He is not troubled by any human plans. He is not in fear that his universe is wandering away from him. He is not surprised by new data. He is not taught something new. He cannot be counseled or consoled. He cannot be overthrown by any army, atheist, or anarchy. God is absolutely and infinitely supreme and his dominion extends to the unceasing infinity. Where can His rule end? When can His wisdom cease? Who can defeat Him? How can any know Him entirely? Answer: His rule is unending; His wisdom never ceases; and His Person and Being can never be known fully. This, my beloved, is the eternal, triune, all-wise, all-powerful, all-knowing, always present, and all-ruling God we serve! The Bible clearly and unequivocally states that God is to be worshipped. If we fail to do this aright, we will gain nothing but human heartache and despair. Nothing can match God’s infinite beauty and majesty and splendor. How could anyone ever miss these great truths: only when the callous heart and blinded mind and stubborn rebellion persist in the soul. My friend do you know Him? Do you seek Him? Do you yearn for a soul quenching God? Don’t stop seeking and knocking.
